10 Things To Do While You’re In Boston For Aligned

We are so excited about Aligned 2017 and all the great panels and events we have planned (schedule will be released late July!). Boston is a truly amazing city, and locals will tell you that September is the best month of the whole year to visit. The Red Sox are playing, the weather is wonderful, and people are just happy! If you are thinking about extending your stay, or need suggestions for things to do during your time off during the conference, we’ve got you covered!

Aligned 2017 is taking place at the beautiful Aloft Boston Seaport. Located in the thriving Seaport district, this conference location is close to the best of Boston, and is a quick trip from Logan Airport. We’ve created a list of 10 great things to do while you’re in Boston for Aligned!

1.) Get Fresh Air in the Seaport Area

Here is a suggested harborwalk guide. Make sure to stop by the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, where you can rest your legs in a contemporary public park in the heart of Boston, and enjoy food trucks a carousel, free Wi-Fi and more.

2.) Visit the ICA

Walk to the “Artist’s Museum” in downtown Boston. The Institute of Contemporary Art is one of the most progressive museums in the city, and shares public access to exhibits, artists, and the creative process of contemporary art.

3.) Relive the Boston Tea Party

Get an interactive history lesson on an infamous event in American history at the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum while watching actors reenact the day on a full-scale restored 18th Century sailing vessel. When you start to get hungry, walk to Union Oyster House, also known as America’s oldest restaurant. This building is a national historic landmark, the first conversations about the American Revolution are said to have taken place on the upper floor of the building in 1771.

4.) Visit ‘Lawn on D’ for a beer

Lawn on D is a 2.7-acre outdoor event space on D Street that features outdoor art, free yard games, and great food trucks directly across the street from Aloft Boston Seaport.

5.) Boston Public Gardens

Did you know that The Public Garden was the first public botanical garden in America? Wander around and explore the over 80 species of plants growing there, and take a swan boat ride.

6.) Explore Boston’s North End

A classic Boston neighborhood is The North End, the city’s oldest residential community, where people have continuously lived since it was settled in the 1660s. Here you’ll find the Paul Revere House, The Historic Old North Church, and endless delicious Italian food. If you have a sweet tooth you must stop at Mike’s Pastry for a cannoli.

7.) Walk the Freedom Trail

Participate in the well-known Freedom Trail walking tour, which can be self-directed or led by a historic actor, and guides you around Boston to 16 historically significant sites. On the tour, stop by local boutique Shake The Tree for everything from contemporary home goods to craft cocktail supplies and barware.

8.) Adventure to the Bunker Hill Monument

Go to the location of the first battle of the Revolutionary War and see the Bunker Hill Monument. The historic 1901 Bunker Hill Lodge adjoins the Monument and there you can find a statue of Joseph Warren, portraits, and a Revolutionary War cannon, “The Adams.” While in Charlestown, follow in the steps of George Washington and Paul Revere and stop by the oldest tavern in Massachusetts, Warren Tavern.

9.) Tour Fenway Park

Check out the home of The Boston Red Sox with a tour of Fenway Park. with a one-of-a-kind Fenway Park experience. Eat a Fenway Frank and get a photo of the Green Monster. If you’re looking to do some one-of-a-kind shopping, head over to Bodega, a high-end sneaker store hidden in plain sight inside a bodega.

10.) Explore the Ocean at the New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium is located on the water and is a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation. Go for a full visit or just say hi to the seals outside!
